As we all collectively come down from the sugar high of the holiday season and start to reprioritize health, the transition from holiday cocktails to healthier alternatives might not seem so exciting.
However, we’ve cracked a big part of the code: hydration. Sparkling water all by itself might not seem like a breakthrough, but sparkling water *plus* all the add-ins we have might just blow your mind and become your new favorite drink.
There are so many ways to switch up your sparkling water that are ready to try in your own home today. Feel free to add as many or as little as you like for the perfect drink. All the different add-ins and garnishes below are just suggestions, feel free to get creative with it!
Making your own simple syrup can add a fresh sweetness to your sparkling water and mixing it in yourself makes preparing the drink feel that much more special. To make your own simple syrup, just pour a cup of water and a cup of sugar into a saucepan. Add in a handful of your favorite fruit or herb (for this example, we’ll use orange peels), then stir as you bring everything to a boil. Let your syrup mixture boil for 3 minutes (keep stirring!), then let simmer until the liquid has thickened to your liking. Then, just strain it all through a mesh strainer or cheesecloth before refrigerating!
Chia seeds add fiber, omega 3 fatty acids and antioxidants to your drink. They’re known for boosting energy and having an anti-inflammatory effect on joints. With all these benefits, it’s worth at least a try (right?).
In addition to adding in these different flavors, you can dress up your drink by putting it in a different glass. From mason jars to wine glasses or even a copper mug, the levels of classiness are endless. By dressing your sparkling water up, you’ll be able to hydrate while also treating every sip like a special occasion. Don’t forget to use your favorite add-in or garnish when you share a pic of your final creation. Cheers!
