So we were thinking: Valentine’s Day is all about love, and what we love most is plants… How can we combine the two? We came up with some pretty great ideas, but the one that was by far the best? A heart shaped wreath crafted from succulents. The perfect decoration for this time of year (or any time of year really).

We recruited the help of our friend @christies to bring this idea to life. You may remember Christie from our succulent Christmas tree DIY. Yep, she was the perfect person for the job as she can create absolute works of art with plants!

If you want to put your own spin on this succulent wreath, try including some pops of pink flowers or red roses. We recommend using faux succulents and flowers for something like this, but a great alternative would be to use real dried flowers. Any door would be grateful to be adorned by such a lovely, seasonally appropriate DIY craft.

Safe at Home Activity: Christie's Succulent Heart Wreath

Materials

  • Grapevine wreath
  • Dense floral foam half circle
  • Faux Succulents
  • Faux greenery
  • Moss
  • Floral Wire
  • Needle Nose Pliers
  • Knife
  • Upholstery Needle
  • Fishing line or other clear thread

Instructions

  1. Using your knife, carve the dense floral foam into a heart.
  2. Grab your moss and spread over your heart. Clip small pieces of floral wire, bend them in a U shape, and push them around the moss to keep it in place.
  3. Push faux succulents into the heart to decorate.
  4. Thread your upholstery needle with your clear fishing line or thread and push it all the way into the foam at the top of the heart. (This is why you're using the dense foam, the needle will stay put and not slide out when we hang it from the wreath)
  5. Grab your grapevine wreath and, using floral wire, attach your faux greenery
  6. Take foam heart and, using the fishing line, tie it to the top of your wreath.
  7. Hang and admire your talent.
