St. Patrick’s Day may be an Irish holiday, but we sure do like to celebrate big here in America. Almost all stores in the first half of March are filled with green St. Patty’s themed goods. Several American cities have big parades with thousands of on-lookers showing up to celebrate. We even dye our beer green for the occasion- That’s dedication.

One of our personal favorite seasonal treats this time of year is the beloved shamrock shake. We’re going to tell you how to make this minty-sweet concoction at home! Our friend Devin from @rokketqueen66 recreated the refreshing milkshake for us to share with all of you.

Now, some people don’t like mint-flavored desserts. They say it tastes like toothpaste (please, we wish our toothpaste tasted that good). Anyway, if you are one of those people, this recipe is not for you. The only substitution would be a classic vanilla milkshake dyed green, which is nowhere near as fun.

Once you realize how easy these are to make, you’ll never need to leave the house for a sweet treat again. With just vanilla ice cream, mint extract, heavy cream, milk and green food coloring, you’ll have a DIY shamrock shake in no time. Don’t forget the cherry on top!

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups vanilla ice cream
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • splash of heavy whipping cream
  • 1/4 tsp mint extract
  • 3-4 drops green food coloring
  • whipped topping
  • green sugar crystals
  • cherries

Instructions:

  1. Blend together ice cream, milk, heavy whipping cream, mint and green food coloring.
  2. Top with whipped cream, green sprinkles and cherries. Enjoy!
